Erin's New Home, Queens, New York

Today, we thought little of our upcoming home remodel. Instead, Nancy, Tim, and I drove to Queens to help Erin move into her apartment. Fortuitously, we found a parking spot on her street on the same block as the apartment building. We unloaded everything from our tightly packed car and distributed the items throughout the apartment.

Then Erin and Jimmy left, leaving us to our own devices, which meant we walked back and forth on Crescent Street to Broadway to shop. We bought two loads of groceries and one load of household items, followed later by dinner. I wasn’t prepared for how little there would be in this apartment—in terms of furniture and food, especially food. But now the pantry is full, which is a good thing.

This apartment has recently been remodeled, in a minor way. The floors have been sanded and sealed (something we still have desperate need to do with our house) and the walls have been painted. Everything looks in quite good shape, but there’s been too much use of paint to cover up all the flat’s problems—especially since no layer of paint seems ever to have departed from this place. But the place is nice and big enough to be enjoyable.

Our daughter is all grown up now.
