Plans
Along with the cabinets, I also received a new set of copies of the rough plans for our new kitchen. It's hard from these drawings to tell how great we expect this new kitchen to be, but notice that we will move from one window we cannot open to three that we can. Also, the right-hand wall will be extended a tiny bit. And the entire kitchen will be opened up by the new window and the fact that the front wall on the right-hand side will disappear. Ah, to see what it will be like four months from now!
Kitchen Layout, Bird's Eye View, with Cabinets Marked
This is a view of the kitchen from above, with some indication of the cabinets we have bought. The checkmarks were added by the deliveryman, who used those to verify he didn't leave any items behind. (For a closer view of these kitchen plans, click on this picture or any of the others here.)
Kitchen Layout, Right Wall
This is probably our favorite part of the kitchen: two windows that will allow sunshine to pour into the room, a handy bookshelf in the kitchen itself, and an uninterrupted eight-foot wide range of countertop. We have never had such wonderful spaciousness in which to prepare a meal. I'm still not sure how I'll like the corner sink, but it will be made of Pearl Gray Corian.

This view makes most clear how much cabinet space we will have. We are quite happy that the cabinets will rise all the way to the ceiling, leaving no deadspace above them. Notice that the left-hand corner itself has another little elbow of counterspace about seven feet in length.

I'll have to get used to having a stove on the left side of the room, but I expect it'll work out well. Our new gas range will actually have five--not four--burners. And imagine all that all the appliances--except for the refrigerator--are stainless steel. Also imagine that we've already bought the microwave range hood already, even though we haven't.
