Steps Two and Three: The Kitchen and Bathroom

The Kitchen Now
The shocking fact about our planned remodel is that our second step will be a strip everything out of the kitchen and bathroom at the same time: cabinets, walls, floors, ceilings. In this way, they will expose all the electrical wires and plumbing and be better able to rewire the electrical and reroute the plumbing.

Above is a picture of our pathetic kitchen how it looks today. The floor is tired and impossible to clean. The cabinets are slowly falling apart. There's a stupid gap between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling. The kitchen is narrow (as it will still be) and short. By the end of the remodel, we will have hardwood floors in the kitchen, new appliances (except for the refrigerator), an extra four feet of length to the kitchen, three windows instead of one (and we will be able to open all of them. We will also have long ranges of usable counterspace, something we don't have now.


The Bathroom Now (Part 1)
Our bathroom is a quizzical beast. The previous owners, trying not to move the plumbing, set up the bathtub and sink in the middle of the room, effectively dividing the room in two. The plan is to move the plumbing so that we can arrange the sink and bathtub along the walls. We will also be moving the washer and dryer into this room, and adding two new windows to the existing one.


The Bathroom Now (Part 2)
This is the hallway between the two parts to the bathroom. When we first looked at this house, I thought the bathroom was tiny until I noticed this hallway. Then I thought the bathroom was strange.

And here is the sink. I hope to be able to take an "after" picture of the bathroom in a few months in one shot.
