Day Fifty-Five: Why a Roof over Our Heads?
Today was another depressing day. Dennis, the roofer, called to say that our roof wasn't made well (and we paid for it ten years ago). The tiles aren't nailed on well, and there appears to be some rotting wood in the room. He says he can try to improve the flashing and just nail in those tiles that aren't nailed in right, but then he wouldn't quote the job. He'd just charge us for time worked and materials. The guys going to give us quotes for replacing the entire roof of the house and the same for the garage. Then we'll know precisely why we don't want a roof over our heads.
Today, the guys who template our countertop came in and did the templating. Dave called Nancy who called me to decide where to put the hose and other items through the sink. With this templating done, we should have our countertop in one week.

The Counter Bookcase, Complete with Molding
Here's the last "cabinet" to go into the kitchen: our huge bookcase. We have enough cookbooks to fill it already.
The Cabinets over the Corner Sink (with Molding)
Dave and John finished the molding over the kitchen cabinets today. Here's a picture of the three counters over the kitchen sink.
The Tile Saw Clogging up the Dining Room
The house is getting too dirty, disorganized, and cluttered. It doesn't help that we have a huge tile saw taking up most of the otherwise free space in the diningroom.
The Tiled Bathtub
The big surprise of the day was the bathtub, which is now completely tiled. Now it has to dry for a couple of days before Pat can grout it. Note the two big shampoo shelves in the bathtub. There's also a hidden soap dish somewhere in there. I think Pat will be able to grout the tile in the bathroom tomorrow.
Looking Inside the Box of Vinyl Siding
In preparation for putting up the siding tomorrow, a few long boxes of the stuff are resting on the deck.
The Backdoor Roof and the Boxes of Siding
From the second-floor landing, I could see the work the guys were doing on the roof over the back door, and I could see the boxes of siding.
